Some types of wrinkles are just different. This is definitely the case when it comes to "dynamic wrinkles." These types of wrinkles typically appear as deep folds and creases on the upper part of the face, such as the forehead. This category of wrinkles responds quite well to treatment with neuromodulators like Xeomin, Dysport and Daxxify.

How do

Neuromodulators work?

Before learning how neuromodulators work, it may be helpful to first understand something called dynamic wrinkles. Unlike wrinkles found on the surface of the skin, dynamic wrinkles are formed by deep, underlying facial muscles. When you make certain repetitive facial muscle movements, these wrinkles can form and deepen over time, giving away your age.

Neuromodulators help banish dynamic wrinkles by means of an injection that contains a safe type of toxin. This blocks nerve transmissions from the brain to the targeted muscle, preventing it from forming a contraction and dynamic wrinkle in that area.

Are Xeomin, Dysport, and Daxxify the same as Botox?

Although all four neuromodulators involve an injection of a type of botulinum toxin, they each have subtle differences between them. Each product is formulated differently to offer slightly different effects, such as extended duration, for example.

The best way to determine which neuromodulator injection treatment will work best for you and your individual needs is to schedule a consultation with your Urban Radiance Med Spa provider at your earliest convenience.

Daxxify is the newest neuromodulator injection that offers a longer-lasting treatment option. Due to these results, it’s set to make a major splash in the injectable world. Urban Radiance is excited to announce that we will be one of the first providers in the area to carry this exciting new injectable, starting March 2023.

First approved for treating frown lines in September 2022, Daxxify sets itself apart by offering longer-lasting results than any other neuromodulator.

Clinical trials found that 80% of subjects had improved facial lines four months after treatment, while almost half of participants continued to notice results after six months.

The only real drawback to Daxxify is that its extended duration could be a problem for those who are unhappy with their results and must wait a long time for the product to wear off.

The main benefit of Daxxify is its appeal to those who are experienced neuromodulator patients who prefer fewer appointments each year. This is important, as Botox variations typically began wearing off within three or four months. This is when you would need to return for follow-up injections to maintain your wrinkle reduction results.

The FDA approved Dysport in 2009 for the treatment of some types of dynamic wrinkles and a condition called cervical dystonia. Most patients find that Dysport takes effect slightly faster than Botox, but lasts equally as long.

Dysport is favored for conditions that take advantage of its spreadability, which occurs due to its lower molecular weight, improving absorption. This means that the product does not have a heavy feel to it, making it appropriate for the treatment of larger areas like the forehead. It also means that patients can obtain full results with fewer injections.

As with most neuromodulators, Dysport has a low incidence of side effects. You won’t have to worry about experiencing post-treatment discomfort or pain. You should also not experience any significant swelling or bruising.

Although some people are scared of needles, there is nothing painful about Dysport injections. This is a minimally invasive treatment that does not require an anesthetic. However, if you are uneasy about the injections, an anesthetic can be provided to numb the treatment area.

Xeomin contains the same active ingredient as Botox – a botulinum toxin – but it is considered to be more natural, as it lacks some of the proteins found in other neuromodulators. This is believed to make the product less likely to result in an allergic reaction.

Xeomin was approved in 2011 to treat frown lines between the eyebrows.

Getting treated with Xeomin is very convenient, and each treatment session should take no more than 20 minutes. In fact, many patients get their Xeomin injections during their lunch break and return to work right after.

Those who are allergic to milk proteins do not normally make good candidates for treatment with Dysport, while this fact is not as disqualifying for Xeomin. Actually, the only poor candidates for Xeomin are those who are pregnant or nursing.

As with other neuromodulator injections that contain botulinum toxin, you should inform your provider of all of your medical conditions, particularly allergies to any type of botulinum toxin. You should also inform them of all medications that you are taking, including vitamins and nutritional supplements.
